Recently, Kohli spoke about the difficult phase of his career when he struggled to score big runs last year as centuries fell short of his bat before the 2022 Asian Cup.

In a chat with Robin Uthappa on JioCinema, Kohli recalled how his wife Anushka Sharma held him down and helped him deal with public pressure.

“When you come back from a space like this. It’s easy to immediately say to yourself ‘ah, everything is so good and it’s fine’. That’s why I say Anushka’s name first because she saw the challenges of being in this position. She knows it. She’s been there for so many years. She knows what it takes to handle public pressure. So his conversations with me have always been invaluable. She tells me the truth, simple,” Kohli said.

The legendary hitter said he would have become a selfish maniac, but Anushka didn’t let that happen.

“There’s no mollycoddling. Because no one else is (real). there’s always so many layers. She’s like, my responsibility is to tell you the truth. So the way she spoke during this phase was something that kept me in check. If I was left on my own just to figure it out, I would have become a selfish maniac. I would have become livelier, even grumpier if she kept on bring me back to the basic level where two people should be on the same level, to be normal, to grow together,” he said.
