Harbhajan Singh urged Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir to resolve their dispute, while he himself apologized to S. Sreesanth for slapping him.

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir came face to face again in the IPL, and tempers flared between the two legends so much that they had to be separated by players from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants. The two teams met for the second time in the 2023 IPL season, the previous game saw a tense final ball and some unnecessary antics from LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir.

As RCB and LSG met again, it was bound to produce fireworks, but few could have predicted the game would turn out to be such a tense affair. Kohli faced LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq in round 17 of the Lucknow heats, the former RCB skipper was also seen in a heated exchange with Amit Mishra.

After the end of the match which RCB won by 18 points defending the lowest total of IPL 2023 so far, Kohli and Naveen clashed again as they shook hands before Virat and Gautam Gambhir did not come face to face.

With so much tension on the pitch, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who himself was at the helm of one of the IPL’s most infamous controversies, urged Virat and Gautam to forget the past and make up.

Harbhajan recalled his own mistake when he slapped his compatriot S. Sreesanth in 2008 after a match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab).

Citing his own example, the ‘Turbanator’ admitted there was no place for such antics in sport, and being two icons of Indian cricket, Kohli and Gambhir should go out in peace.

“It won’t stop there. People will talk about it, try to dissect who did what. All of this, however, is outward speaking. As someone who has been through something like this myself. It’s something similar that happened between me and Sreesanth in 2008. Today, 15 years later, I’m still ashamed to think about it because all these gestures are not. In the moment, I felt what happened as if it had happened, I was right. But no, what I did was wrong,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

“Virat Kohli, you are a legend. You don’t have to get involved in something like this. But he’s such a passionate player that he felt involved in the game and it happened. People will try to find out if it is the mistake of Kohli, Gambhir or Naveen but this image that has been made is not good for cricket. You are both such great players, they are both my younger brothers and it is with this freedom that I say this, it is of no use,” added the legendary spinner.
