Lucknow Super Giants Yash Thakur already grabbed everyone’s attention on Monday night with his brilliant work on the pitch against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match no. 43 in Lucknow. The rookie bowler caught veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik off guard on the non-attacking side with a direct hit from his own bowling.

The incident happened in the penultimate round of the RCB when Wanindu Hasaranga was on strike. Since more than half of the RCB batters were back in the hut, the duo of Karthik and Hasaranga were trying everything to get points on the board. The latter appeared to hit big again but mistimed it to Thakur who grabbed the ball, turned and hit the bullseye at the other end. The youngsters jumped in the air to celebrate the dismissal as he knew Karthik had failed to achieve his goal.

Dinesh Karthik is having a torrid time in the current season. He scored just 83 runs in 8 innings with a game-high of 28, against Chennai Super Kings on April 17. Before arriving on Monday evening, he looked very in touch as he broke a limit, just after the rain break, and a maximum. But unfortunately, he fell prey to Thakur’s presence of mind. Karthik scored 16 of 11 before getting knocked out.

Overall, LSG put up a fine bowling performance to limit Royal Challengers Bangalore to a below-par 126 for nine. The visitors never had any momentum up their sleeves after opting to strike first. The star opening duo of skipper Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli shared a 62-point partnership, but once it was broken by Ravi Bishnoi, the whole RCB stick fell apart.

The rotation duo of Ravi Bishnoi (2/21) and veteran Amit Mishra (2/21) shone with the ball through the middle to control RCB’s scoring rate.
