A heated argument between Kohli and Gambhir ensued after the match between LSG and RCB.

Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir, Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Virat Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants pitcher Naveen-ul-Haq have been fined for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct ) in the IPL 2023 match.

A heated argument between Kohli and Gambhir ensued after the match between LSG and RCB. Kohli’s aggressive celebration of every wicket in RCB’s successful defense of a low 127 tally seemed to have triggered Gambhir.

This incident follows an earlier clash between the two teams where Gambhir was seen hushing the crowd at M Chinnaswamy Stadium following LSG’s thrilling one-wicket win over RCB. After Monday night’s game, Kohli’s brief chat with LSG fly-half Kyle Mayers appears to have further inflamed Gambhir’s anger.

During the post-match handshake, LSG bowler Naveen-ul-Haq was also seen arguing with Kohli, with Glenn Maxwell holding him back. Amidst the chaos, Gambhir appeared livelier and was repeatedly held back from charging towards Kohli. Eventually, the two were separated by players, match officials and support staff from both teams.

“Mr. Gambhir admitted the Tier 2 offense under Section 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct and was fined 100% of his match fee. Similarly, Mr. Kohli has admitted the Level 2 offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct and was fined 100% of his match fee Mr. Naveen-ul-Haq, on the other hand, was fined 50% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore,” an IPL statement said.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) picked up an impressive 18-point win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a tight, low-scoring encounter on Monday, avenging their previous defeat in Bengaluru. With the victory, RCB climbed to fifth place with 10 points, while LSG slipped to third.

In the opening innings, a well-disciplined bowling performance by LSG limited RCB to a paltry 126 for 9. Despite a strong start to the innings, thanks to a 62-point partnership between skipper Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, RCB had struggled to build momentum as LSG bowlers fought back brilliantly.

Unfortunately for LSG, their captain KL Rahul suffered a major setback on the final second delivery when he pulled his right thigh muscle while chasing a ball towards the extra cover boundary. Although he couldn’t prevent the boundary, Rahul was left in considerable pain and was forced off the field. In his absence, Krunal Pandya took charge of the team.
