IPL 2023: The IPL dropped the clip of Rohit’s sacking on Instagram where it is clearly visible that the ball disturbed the bails and not the gloves of Sanju

Rohit Sharma’s dismissal in Sunday night’s game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede Stadium has become the game’s biggest talking point. Although the five-time champions defeated Sanju Samson & Co in what was the 1000e IPL game, MI skipper’s wicket got the world talking.

The incident happened in the second when pacer RR Sandeep Sharma threw a punch ball which bamboozled Rohit Sharma who was on strike. The MI captain failed to read the variation and before he could play the shot, the zing bails lit up as the ball passed past the stumps.

Controversy erupted on social media when the replays hit screens, much later after Rohit entered the dugout. Front view of TV replays made it look like Sanju’s gloves had moved the bails but not the ball. The incident caused a massive outcry on social media, with a majority of internet users accusing the referees of making a bad decision.

But on Tuesday night, the IPL dropped the clip of Rohit’s sacking on Instagram where it is clearly visible the ball disrupted bail before landing in Sanju’s gloves. The video also featured a sideways replay, showing that it was a fair dismissal.

“The dismissal that made the world talk! IPL 1000th match was no shortage of drama,” the video caption read.

Rohit, who also turned 36 on Monday, was cheaply dismissed for just 2 runs as the Royals made an early breakthrough.

Earlier on Monday, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden cent went in vain as Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David carried MI to a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals.

The five-time champions looked in trouble as they were 104/3 from 12 overs, but Suryakumar crushed 20 runs from Kuldeep Sen’s 13th over. hitting two fours and five huge sixes for Mumbai to go seventh in the points table with the most successful IPL pursuit at the venue.
