Lalit Modi spoke about the growth of the Indian Premier League and said it has changed the landscape of Indian cricket.

Lalit Modi, founder and architect of the Indian Premier League, spoke about the growth of the franchise league tournament across the globe which started in 2008. Modi was the mastermind behind the establishment of the IPL in 2008, a year after India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup in 2007. . The tournament became an instant hit with the public and became profitable from the first season itself. After the success of IPL, several countries also launched their own franchise league tournaments, but none of this came close to the revenue and popularity of the Indian T20 tournament.

Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals played the 1000th IPL game on Sunday as Modi expressed his gratitude to the fans for making it such a big success across the globe.

“I want to thank them (fans, players, stakeholders and regulators) for their support. Thank you for making the IPL what it is,” Modi said on Cricbuzz.

Modi spoke about the growth of the cash-rich league and said it has changed the landscape of Indian cricket.

“It’s really a moving moment. It’s amazing to see the IPL grow so fast and become the second biggest league in the world by value. In terms of viewership, it’s number 1. More important than that is the number of young people we’ve seen across the country’s landscape. And the infrastructure that has developed across India. It’s the by-product of the growth of the IPL,” Modi added.

Meanwhile, Lalit has been banned by BCCI after IPL 2023 after being found guilty of financial irregularities. However, the 59-year-old is still following the cash-rich league closely and suggested that with the current growth rate, IPL can take over the NFL and become the No. 1 league in all sports.

“It’s thanks to the fans and the way they’ve embraced the league. It just seems like it’s growing stronger and stronger. It won’t be long before the IPL becomes the No.1 league in n “any sport in the world. It’s behind the NFL now, No. 2 currently.
