The agent was released on April 28.
The producer of star agent Akhil Akkineni spoke about the film’s failure at the box office.
Akhil Akkineni’s spy action-thriller Agent was released earlier this week, but so far has had poor reception from critics and audiences alike. The director of The Surender Reddy also met Internet users trolling the filmmaker as well as Akhil Akkineni himself who had spent two years on this film. Now, the film’s producer Anil Sunkara has come forward to address the box office debacle.
Taking to his Twitter account, Anil Sunkara wrote, “We must take full responsibility for #Agent. Although we know it is a daunting task, we thought to conquer but we did not succeed because we made a mistake by starting the project without a linked script and countless problems including covid have follow up. We don’t want to give any excuses, but let’s learn from this costly mistake and see how we can turn around to ensure we never repeat the mistakes. Our apologies to all those who placed their trust in us. We will make up for the losses with dedicated planning and hard work in our future projects.”

Earlier, Akhil Akkineni’s mother Amala Akkineni showed her support by addressing trolls on her social media timeline. She had written,
“I understand that trolling comes from inner insecurity and the need for success. I watched Agent yesterday and really enjoyed the movie. However, it had its flaws, if you watch with an open mind you will be amazed. I watched it in a powerful theater when 50% of the audience is women who are mothers and grandmothers with their husbands and sons. There were screams when the big action happened. I’m sure his next one will be bigger and better.”
Agent is directed by Surender Reddy and produced by Anil Sunkara. Surender’s last director was the 2019 film Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. The film was a box office hit and garnered over Rs 240 crore which helped the director make a good impression in the industry.
